Leave It Better Than You Found It:

You may have heard the saying “leave it better than you found it,” and if you need a textbook example of this phrase in action, look no further than Daral Battles. Daral joined Hall Tank in 2017 and initially worked in the supply chain. However, he quickly climbed the ranks and became team lead of the fiberglass department before eventually settling into his current role as Purchasing Administrator.

Daral attributes his success to his willingness to draw on his previous experience and use it to make improvements at Hall Tank. “Some of the knowledge I gained over the years at my previous jobs, I’ve been putting into practice here. When I take on a new position, I always look for ways to make it better.”

One of Daral’s primary strategies for improving processes across different departments is to leverage the strengths of the people around him. He believes in placing individuals in positions that best utilize their talents. “When I took over the fiberglass department, I recognized that we could do things better. By recognizing the key players around me, I was able to restructure the department and make significant improvements.”

By recognizing and utilizing the talents of those around him, Daral was able to make considerable improvements to the movement of tanks in his previous roles. These improvements caught the attention of Robert Hall, the company’s President and CEO, who eventually moved Daral to the purchasing department.

Once in the purchasing department, Daral quickly identified areas for improvement. He realized that the company’s minimum and maximum ordering system was leading to delays and decided to work on a new schedule that would streamline the process. “We cut a lot of things out in the middle, which allowed us to bring tanks in more efficiently.”

To be able to change a company’s workflow, you need trust and for those around you to be willing to listen to your ideas about making improvements. Having this here at Hall Tank is one of the reasons why he has been with the company since 2017, and why he has worked so hard to make it better.

“One thing I like about the culture here is that Robert is always open to listen to new ideas. I didn’t have that at the other place I worked, and everybody has been good to me since I got here. I wouldn’t try to go anywhere else.”
